The RailCompliant roadmap: where the line goes next

Two lines, one for railroads and one for crew and railfans. Filled stops are in service. Open stops are planned, with the season we expect to reach them; seasons are estimates and can move. Effective October 8, 2026.

Railroads

Compliance, the shop and the paperwork, for the railroad as a whole.

Earlier stops are in the release notes

  1. Permissions, purchasing and the Cost Center

    Shipped Sep 2026

Choose what members can open and change, let approvers sign off requisitions up to a limit, and see a year's spending.

  2. Runs, the calendar and work days

    Shipped Oct 2026

A run is a plan until it's closed out. One calendar holds every date the railroad works to, on your phone too.

  3. Where your trains run

    Shipped Oct 2026

Insular and off-system lines get only the rules that reach them, following Part 209, Appendix A.

  4. A signed timestamp every day

    Shipped Oct 2026

An independent authority signs the record history's fingerprint, so anyone can check it without trusting us.

  5. You are here
  6. Certifications on the crew page

    Planned for Fall 2026

Every person's certifications and what expires next, beside the roster, the way locomotive pages show compliance.

  7. Shop procedures

    Planned for Winter 2026–27

Your own SOPs, such as how to inspect the valve gear, written here or imported from Word or Markdown and kept as a book for the shop.

  8. Compliance-only mode

    Planned for Winter 2026–27

A simpler RailCompliant for crews who only track locomotives and compliance. Work orders, parts and inventory stay out of sight.

  9. Link crew accounts to your roster

    Planned for Winter 2026–27

Invite people on your roster to link their free account. A link doesn't open your records; it lets you verify their service.

  10. Your own inspection programs

    Planned for Spring 2027

Inspections your railroad sets for itself, like periodic and annual passenger-car checks, on the same due-date engine.

  11. Photos from a link, in bulk, with credits

    Planned for Spring 2027

Add a photo from a web address, add many across records at once, and credit the photographer and license.

  12. Video and a rebuild record

    Planned for Summer 2027

Video uploads, and one record of a restoration job: its work orders, photos and video, exported as a ZIP and a PDF.

  13. Locomotive custody

    Planned for Summer 2027

Lend a locomotive to an operating railroad: its history goes with it, you keep a read-only view, and the records come back.

  14. Railroad announcements

    Not scheduled yet

Post your railroad's news, and the crew and railfans who follow you get it.

  15. Signals, crossings and track

    Not scheduled yet

Parts 236, 234 and 213: signal tests, grade crossing inspections and slow orders, cited to the eCFR.

Crew & railfans

The free account: one person's certifications, career and regulations.

Earlier stops are in the release notes

  1. My Career

    Shipped Sep 2026

Your certifications with reminders 60, 30 and 7 days before they expire, past service and a printable service record.

  2. Regulations you can read

    Shipped Oct 2026

Parts 229 and 230 set out like the CFR, with bookmarks, saved searches and sticky notes.

  3. Free accounts for crew and railfans

    Shipped Oct 2026

No railroad and no card: certifications, a railfan journey with photos, and regulation watch.

  4. Career log import and verified history

    Shipped Oct 2026

Bring your logbook in from a spreadsheet, then ask a railroad to verify the entries.

  5. You are here
  6. See exactly what changed

    Planned for Fall 2026

Regulation watch emails open eCFR's side-by-side view of the old and new text, not just the Part.

  7. Link your account to your railroad

    Planned for Winter 2026–27

Accept a railroad's invitation to link your free account. You can decline, or leave whenever you like.

  8. Appendices and figures

    Planned for Winter 2026–27

The Part 229 and 230 appendices in the library, with the figures beside the text.

  9. Read a paper logbook page

    Planned for Spring 2027

Photograph a page of your paper logbook and check every row it reads before it goes into your career log.

  10. Verified records from your railroad

    Planned for Spring 2027

Once you're linked, the hours, runs, inspections and designations in your railroad's records show on My Career, marked verified.

  11. Your career portfolio

    Planned for Summer 2027

A railroad can file a certification you share as evidence in its own records, and your service record prints everything you've kept.

  12. Follow a railroad

    Not scheduled yet

Follow the railroads you crew or ride, and get their news with your regulation watch.

  13. A questions board

    Not scheduled yet
